After the colourful, warm opening night dedicated to Cindy Lauper, the second day of the tenth edition of Seeyousound saw the start of the screening marathon at Cinema Massimo.

Every section made its debut, including Soundies and 7 Inch, which preceded the screenings of the longer films. The day was opened in the afternoon by the Long Play Doc section with Elis & Tom, sò tinha de ser com você, a film that tells the story of the relationship between Tom Jobim, a representative of Bossa Nova, and Elis Regina, Brazil’s most popular singer, during the ’70s.
The Long Play Doc section also closed the day with its first live show organised for the tenth edition, to which the audience responded en masse, as the long queue outside the cinema testifies. The‘esibizione dei Solar Pulsers will certainly be a moment for which this edition will be remembered. Giorgio Li Calzi, Paolo Dellapiana e Sara Berts played the Buchla, one of the first synthesisers ever built, of which Subotnick was a pioneer in its use. With this machine they created an ambient electronic music set made up of clean, delicate synths. Giampo Coppa took care of the visual performance with a liquid light show: liquid colours, gels and solvents mixed in time with the sound modulations, which, when projected, create strange coloured shapes. A psychedelic, immersive performance.

Subotnick: Portrait Of An Electronic Music Pioneer by Robert Fantinatto, screened after the performance, is a documentary dedicated to the career of Martin Subotnick. A career that is still ongoing, as the director reminds us in the video message shown before the film. Subotnick is a founding father for music producers, a precursor in the world of electronic music and synthesisers, before Brian Eno. The film reveals the behind-the-scenes stories and the passion behind his creative process, such as his meeting with Don Buchla. The portrait of an innovator and of the strength of his ideas.

During the rest of the day the other sections also made their debut. In Sala 3 Soldati, for the LP Feature section, two very different films were screened: K-Pop Story e After. The first is a comedy about the world of K-POP, the South Korean music that so many teenagers around the world love, directed by Yun Jae-yeon. The second is the first film by the French director Anthony Lapia, presented at the 73rd Berlinale, which tells of the euphoria of a night in a Parisian club, among sweaty bodies in motion and overpowering industrial techno music.
At 6 pm in Sala 1 Cabiria it was the turn of Little RIchard: I Am Everything, directed by Lisa Cortés, an overwhelming documentary about the rock ‘n’ roll legend Little Richard. Yes, the Tutti Frutti guy, in case you were wondering. A film that shows the exceptional nature of the man in all his contradictions and his cultural legacy from that period in which the great stage stars were being born in the USA.

The second day of the festival was brought to a close by Who to Love by Giorgio Testi, who attended the screening, and Bad Like Brooklyn Dancing Hall, a film produced by Shaggy that is a coherent account of dancehall as an evolution of New York immigration, of the sharing of Jamaican identity and of its cultural pride.
And that’s all for today, see you tomorrow for the third day
