SEEYOUSOUND 11 – VINCITORI

The 11th edition of SEEYOUSOUND International Music Film Festival has come to an end, a unique presence on the Italian film festival scene because it is the first and still the only one to offer a programme devoted entirely to music-themed cinema, bringing to Turin the best Italian and international films in which images and sound meet, tell each other’s stories and stimulate one another. Year after year the event confirms itself as a landmark for cinephile audiences and for the many music lovers who experience the thrill of meeting their favourite artists in a visual and narrative way as well as a sonic one.

The programme of this edition offered 65 titles (fiction feature films and documentaries, short films and music videos); 15 events including talks, live shows, DJ sets, exhibitions and installations, and welcomed more than 40 guests from Italy and around the world.

The claim chosen for Seeyousound Eleven – The High Fidelity Music Film Festival – took shape in the encounter with the audience, once again ready to welcome the festival’s arrival in the city, repaying in attendance and enthusiasm the efforts and uncertainties involved in organising an event with such a varied offering.

6,000 attendances were recorded over 8 days of the event, from 21 to 28 February, between Cinema Massimo and the other 5 city venues (Recontemporary, Casa Frequencies / Circolo del Design, Magazzino sul Po, Capodoglio and Off Topic), figures in line with 2024, when the tenth-anniversary edition lasted 10 days over 2 weekends.

Sold-out screenings and packed theatres for: Blur: To The End by Tobi L., which opened the festival in its Italian premiere, Soundtrack to a Coup d’État by Johan Grimonprez, Oscar-nominated as “Best Documentary”, Uzeda – Do It Youself by Maria Arena and Going Undergroung by Lisa Bosi, which filled the hall for both scheduled screenings, as did Mogwai: If the Stars Had a Sound by Antony Crook; and the live show Escapology Live A/V by Kode9.

«A year after our tenth-anniversary edition, rewarded by a warm and numerous turnout, we have once again felt the embrace of the audience, and it is a spur for us to keep doing what we have been doing for 11 years. – say Carlo Griseri and Alessandro Battaglini, director and deputy director of Seeyousound – Seeing people who come back year after year, even from outside the region, and who by now make a habit of attending the festival, is a great demonstration of the trust we have earned and a great satisfaction. We close this new edition with the feeling that our cultural proposal is understood and appreciated by the people with whom we in fact share two great passions – cinema and music – and this gives us the right momentum towards the 2026 edition…we are getting back to work!”

The jury of LONG PLAY FEATURE – Concorso lungometraggi di finzione, composta da Francesca Mazzoleni, Marta Perego e Andrea Tomaselli assegna il premio Best Feature Film – LP FEATURE – Francesca Evangelisti a IMAGO by Olga Chajdas.

Jury citation: A tactile, material narrative capable of animating places, bodies and sounds beyond mimesis, in a manifestation of psychic states and social atmospheres. With courage, the film accepts dwelling in a precarious balance between historical-political chronicle and a dimension of the Self that tells of its own diversity, lived with pride, and the struggle to resist a forced alienation. A female figure who accepts the risk of appearing at times hard to relate to, at times even disturbing, rather than settle into any rhetoric.

Special mention: LES REINES DU DRAME by Alexis Langlois.

The jury of LONG PLAY DOC – Concorso Documentari composta da Giorgio Guernier, Rossano Lo Mele e Manuela Zero assegna il premio Best Documentary – LP DOC unanimously to GOING UNDERGROUND by Lisa Bosi

Jury citation: A living, present tribute to Carnival of Fools, one of the first Italian bands with an international vocation, and to the record label, Vox Pop, which played a crucial role in the birth of Italian independent music in the 1990s. An intimate story that works to the rhythm of the music, in which the vital force of youth and the love of rock bring back to light an important story that had been missing until now. Archive footage of extraordinary power, the account of the protagonists and the work done on the sound quality complete the film in the best possible way.

The musical language, which within the film changes together with the protagonist, gives her the power to emancipate herself and reach a personal catharsis
