7 INCH

Freedom. Passion. Bravery. Evasion. Madness? Rebellion. How many feelings can music express? And in how many ways can cinema show them?

Cinema and music are two of the most powerful means of expression of our time. With such tools we can talk out loud without yelling, making people hear us. And short films are one of the best ways to do that. These small pieces of movie are like bright spots of a constellation that can lead us to understand what is happening around us. And so, First Work, Then Play tells us about the social pressures that a young artist has to deal with in the new millennium, whereas the young lady of Lori. Melancholy of My Mother’s Lullabies has to face an old and obsolete tradition that wants for the girls to be married, even if they are still children. Meanwhile the dancer of Shells feels trapped between the walls of a retirement home.

Sometimes it seems impossible to set free from those cages, like for the main character of Ecce who can’t run out from her routine. More times people choose to hide themselves in the happy memories of the past, drawing in them, or being obsessed with them. Despite this, being free could be easier than we imagine. Follow the instinct and dance, even when everyone tells you to stand still. Waive the comfort zone to follow some dreams and to be yourself.

And yet, not all dreams can become true, and even if they do, sometimes they’re not like we expected. But, with some adjustment in sound and image, with some fresh pop irony, reality itself can be the perfect place to stay.

7 INCH EXPERIMENTA

24

FEBRUARY
18:00
CINEMA TEATRO MAFFEI

Every year 7Inch gathers original works that can’t be easily defined: they are neither narrative shorts nor video clips, yet they are both. They are often crazy experiments with no apparent sense and they find their meaning in music and rhythm. Breaking the rules without asking permission, making noise and chaos. Seeyousound is the perfect place for this tagless and floating genre that encloses the nature of the three “short” sections of the Festival.

7 Inch Experimenta is an experimental short film programme where music and rhythm are not only a soundtrack but help to shape and affect images.
