I can’t Escape Myself, one of the most buzzing songs of the British new wave, was written by Adrian Borland with his band, The Sound, but what happened to him? The documentary chronicles the rise and fall of the band and of the prolific singer, from when he began his musical career with The Outsiders, and illustrates, through rare archival footage, his inner struggle between depression, love for life and his incredible creative talent.
Marc Waltman, a 45 years old Dutch director, has been involved in the production of films, comics and music since he was a teenager, with his own Boegbeeld Films, and he has directed several commercial films, although he dreamed of making a feature film. The opportunity came along, tohether with producer Jean-Paul Van Mierlo, with Walking In The Opposite Direction, entirely self-produced and financed thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and to the sale of Adrian Borland’s old guitars.
The film premiered at IDFA in November 2015.
