Having to face an iconographic system made of paradigms related to the mainstream music, means that it’s been many years that the most creative authors of music videos have the chance to move into a field open to experiments, in which all you can do is to indulge in search of endless original solutions.
The format of the music video itself is very precisely defined by the music track’s timing within it it’s completed, concluded, and where you can make people live the experience of total newness without losing a certain sense of security. A search for freedom, even if sometimes obsessive, but without a doubt healthy and exciting, is definitely needed. A research often focused on the critique, the questioning or the overthrow of some types of mainstream products, both in terms of beauty and of form’s harmony. An operation of overturning the codes that often declines on the physical and anatomical level of the figures, but also on the rejection of certain design stereotypes, or even of landscapes and schemes too automatic to capture and develop the natural environments. In this perspective prevails the idea of hybris, for the proportion and the “monstrosity”, for the “uneven”. It is interesting to have the chance to intercept new formal balances, new aesthetic solutions of representing Man, even in relation to the “new visions” offered by technology, with a particular attention to the medical and diagnostic field.
Some videos are, in fact, true anatomical studies interested in a reinvention of the movement. In terms of the stories, what prevails is the daily life that become an opportunity to make reflections on landscapes and feelings. Many of narrative perspectives are often built by deepening the idea that listening to a piece of music is always a personal experience, a “double projection” that goes from the ‘image to the brain’ or viceversa, in which the spectator becomes the true creator of the vision. It’s the same formal research that makes the objects dance and invites us to look at them from an unprecedented perspectives, to reinvent a sense within obliged storiesm which are always the same. What arises is the idea of a connexion’s language to process extreme photographic experiences: some clips are authentic researches of images in movement, in the full awareness of the tools and compelling solutions offered by the digital technology.
This selection allows you to take stock of the various contemporary animation techniques, from the works in stop motion to pure computer graphics, from figurative to abstract art. Not without some reference to the history of cinema and to pop icons imaginary, which, talking about rock’n’roll never hurts!
